Queen Elizabeth II has died at Balmoral Castle on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at ninety-six (96) years of age.
Balmoral Castle was Queen Elizabeth II’s summer home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth II was the UK's longest-serving monarch after reigning for seventy (70) years.
Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne was on February 6, 1952, at twenty-five (25) years of age, after her father, King George VI, died at fifty-two (52) years of age.
Queen Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh until he died in 2021 at ninety-nine (99) years of age.
Prince Charles and Prince Williams
Queen Elizabeth II is succeeded by her son Prince Charles who is now King Charles III.
Prince Charles was the Prince of Wales until 1952 at three (3) years old, when he became the Duke of Cornwall after his mother became Queen Elizabeth II.
The eldest son of King Charles III, Prince William, is now the heir to the throne.
Prince William is one of two (2) sons born to King Charles III and the late Princes Diana, Princess of Wales.
Prince William's younger brother, Prince Harry, is now the fifth in line to the throne.
Prince Harry is the fifth in line to the throne because Prince Williams has three (3) children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who are nine (9), seven (7), and four (4) years of age, respectively.
The Duke of Cornwall
Prince William was known as the Duke of Cambridge, and his wife, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Now that Prince William is the heir to the throne, he has inherited the title Duke of Cornwall.
The Duke of Cornwall is the title traditionally held by the eldest son of the reigning monarch.
Being the Duke means he is entitled to the entire income of the Duchy.
Duchy means Duke’s Lands and is a private estate that King Edward III established in 1337 to allow his son and heir, Prince Edward, to be financially independent.
The Duchy of Cornwall, as it is officially recognized, is worth about US$1.3 billion.
As Duke, he (i.e., Prince William) has indirect access to the Duchy’s capital value. The Duke pays taxes on the capital, and the fund is used to finance public, private, and charitable activities.
The new Duke of Cornwall may earn an annual income of about US$27 million from the Duchy.
